Understanding Wiggles & Focus
If you learn best when you’re moving, you’re not alone! Many students need to move their bodies to help their brains focus. OTs call this getting “vestibular input” (movement and balance) and “proprioceptive input” (heavy work).
Expert OT Tip:
“The school day can involve a lot of sitting,” says one of our OTs. “Toys that involve climbing, bouncing, or swinging are like exercise for the nervous system! They help energetic kids get their ‘wiggles’ out so they can be calmer later.“
Toy Tips:
- Small indoor trampolines for quick bounces.
- LeapFrog Pick Up & Count Vacuum
- Fat Brains Teeter Popper
